Hi,

With my engine management light on, and not going out after the warm up cycles, and that rich fuel / oily exhaust smell I've been getting, it's finally time to delve into the realms of TuneECU !!  :icon_sad:

I've read the sticky, but don't have much idea about these things, so if someone can be bothered to answer the following, it would be much appreciated:

Will the cables I'm seeing on Fleebay work with any Tiger 955i or are there diferent ECU's ?? Mine's a late 2006.

What Windows operating systems do they work / not work on ??

Is it easy enough to diagnose a problem ??

Will I be able to upload a better map with ease ??

Is there a recommended retailer we use on here ??

Edit: I've got a Vagcom cable, will this serve as a cable for the Tiger and do i need to install separate drivers ??

Thanks in advance  :icon_wink:

A lot of the cables on Ebay give problems.  Before you go spending, try your vagcom cable.  You can't hurt anything by trying.

More money, but I have this one and it works:

At this stage all you are doing is looking at the codes to find out why your EFI light won't go out.  That may explain your oil smell etc.

I'm off to France for a few days tomorrow, but by the time I get back you'll have the cable and we can see what's what.

My VagCom cable didn't seem to work, wouldn't recognize the drivers (I think). Would only acknowledge the RossTech ones.

Will have to source a cable.

Thanks for the info mate, and enjoy France  :icon_wink:

Get the Triumph Twin Power one, it works and Mark is only a phone call away for support.

PS I don't get anything from Mark other than good service  :thumbsup
I used to have long hair, took acid and went to hip joints. Now I long for hair, take antacid and need a new hip joint

Whoops, saw that post too late Sin-Tiger, ordered one from Fleebay, got good feedback, so should be ok. Will keep you all posted as to what the faults were   :icon_wink:

Now, Im not saying that yours will be, but mine from Fleebay, also with really good feedback was useless.

Well, I've got a cable. I consider myself quite computer literate, and yet I am finding it an absolute bloody nightmare trying to find and load the correct drivers for my cable ??

Yes, I've checked all the helpful hints on Rat, here and the TuneECU site, but just can't seem to suss it ??

very frustrating - Grrrr :BangHead

Have a look on Triumph Twin Power site, there is a link for the latest certified ftdi drivers and good guides for most versions of windoz.

Sorted (kinded of), who'd have thought you would have to "unzip" the driver files you downloaded - Grrr !! (what a doyle, as we say in 'artlepool !!  :icon_lol:)

Sooooooo......... my error codes:

P0230 - fuel pump relay.
P1231 - fuel pump relay open circuit or short to ground.
P0202 - injector 2 circuit malfunction.
P1206 - injector 2 short circuit to battery or over temperature.

Was a bit far off with my O2 sensor guess  :^_^

P0230 - fuel pump relay. <--- cause you had your tank off...
P1231 - fuel pump relay open circuit or short to ground.  <--- cause you had your tank off...
P0202 - injector 2 circuit malfunction. <--- middle injector connection is lose
P1206 - injector 2 short circuit to battery or over temperature. <--- same as last...

Given it's flashing up over temp and you have rich smells, I'd take a punt at it being stuck open or full of crap.

Update:

I had a leak in one of my vacuum lines, so I've ordered 3 new ones. I took the injectors out and they all look clean, they were only professionally tested recently, with no problems. I've swapped the injectors around so that if the engine management light throws a fault again on a different cyl, I will know it's the injector. I balanced the carbs with a home made manometer, that was fun - NOT  :BangHead . The carbs were out, obviously, so got them back in line, but when I swapped the manometer vacuum lines round to test if they still read even, they were way out ?? Cleaned the plugs, ordered a new air filter.

Need to put it all back together, but when I was running the bike with the manometer attached, that rich smell was still there ?? Maybe it just is burning a lot of oil ??

Very frustrating !!
