Hi All,

well I was yakkin to a local bike shop proprietor a few weeks ago and mentioned that I was leaning towards purchasing a new Triumph (Sprint/Tiger) later this year. In short, he seemed surprised that I would do so because of two major flaws he saw are apparent with the triple engine. 1- the design is crap as the middle cylinder does not get enough cooling. 2- the head material is too soft.

Now, as you blokes and chicks have experience with this engine, you would know if this bloke is F.O.S. (full of s**t). Any feedback? Has any of you who read this had any probs possibly associated with either of these 'issues'.

Cheers

What bike is he trying to sell you?

there are posibly two explanations for what he said.

1 he is stuck in a time warp and thinking the NEW Triumphs are the air cooled 1970's bikes 750cc triples (trident)

2 he is FOS

the NEW engines are water cooled if any cylinder was not to be cooled properly it would be the RHS

the head is Aly and have hardend inserts for valves, they run fine on unleaded fuel.

...speaking of designs which have one cylinder inadequately cooled

I'd heard from a fellow that "those british bikes are either dripping oil or out of oil".

I'm hoping he was talking about the older triumphs.  I was playing down around the bash plate last night and found a drop of oil hanging from a bolt (bike's on it's side stand) over on the left side.

S'funny because, when I bought the bike, there was some seeping around the neutral sensor/switch that had to be dealt with before I took posession of the bike.  I didn't do much except swear and go back upstairs.  I'd just finished removing the bash plate to work out a dent that the prior rider had left in it.  I think I'm going to fashion a new one that does a better job of protecting the oil/coolant lines.

Best,

Thrax...your local buke shop proprietor is living in the dark ages. The triple is one of bikings best kept secrets.

The triple is the perfect assimilation of V-Twin (low rev = high torque) and 4 cylinder (high rev = torque).  Plus it is totally unique without the need to wade into debates that the "mainstreamers" seem destined to defend, my V-Twin is better than your V-twin or similar arguements at the liter class of cylinders.

I've never cared for the 955s sound. Too flat, even flatulent, for my taste. My 885 Steamer sounds much better.

Speakin of sound, I test drove the 'O5 Tiger last Sat and have to say that it's is the sweetest and most unigue sound on 2-wheels.  Also, anything sounds better than HD crap.

The Tiger with the stock can doesn't make enough sound to even hear yourself shift. If you want the real triple sound, get a can from Riders of the Lost Empire...Guaranteed...Tell em the Trashmaster sent you...

Now the new girl's cracked 1,000 miles, I've just fitted the Race can and had the efi re-mapped. I'd almost forgotten just how good that engine sounds when it's unrestricted by all those baffles. What a sweet, sweet sound she makes. Oh, lordy...I'm in love again...

Speaking of good sounds, I've got a Guzzi, and it sounds very sweet, the Tiger has the stock pipe, so I don't know yet how it will sound, but a pipe is last on my list of goodies, after a tank bag, center stand .........and a few other mod's. 8)
