Title: Road trip and camping ** UPDATED **
Post by: bjago on August 24, 2011, 05:44:39 PM
It's my gonna be my first time camping on a motorcycle.
I am probably taking too much stuff, but I need to start somewhere.

Loaded for the trip ( for the most part ).

The beer of choice for the weekend trip

The plan is to leave my home near Vancouver, Washington and head south on I5 then east on 138 to Crater lake for some sightseeing, then stay the night just south of Crater lake at a lower elevation for the night. Then make a quick run down 97 to I5 again for a bit then to 89 near Mt Shasta to finally meet up with my friends near Mt Lassen.

Let's see how this goes.  :D  :D

Hmm, dont see a cooler for the beer   if your fully loaded try the bike on its side stand...you may need to raise the pre load.

Oh, enjoy :D

What a great trip from SW Washington state to Crater lake then to the Bridge Campsite near Old Station California.

Of course there's gotta be some traffic

But it all pans out when there's such beautiful scenery

My sidekick, Ninja monkey warrior enjoying the beauty too

Getting closer to the campsite with Mt Shasta in site

Finally made it to the campsite after 490 miles in 10 hours and a great meal over an open fire and great friends and a good nights sleep.
Burney falls

During the falls loop I decided to get a closer look

My friends "approval" on seeing me over the fence :-)

The small creek next to our campsite, Hat Creek

The road trip home was a bit warm but I made it quickly back to home to Washington.

What I learned from my first camping trip is
1. I don't need all the shit I brought
2. I love this bike
3. I love the freedom I enjoy

The bike performed flawlessly, from 58 to 102 degrees F.
Speeds from chugging along in construction traffic at near 100 degrees without overheating to unstated highway speeds with limited helmet buffeting.
Carrying all the needed items for camping plus apparently some extra stuff.
The rear shock could use a new spring or a replacement, the Shinko 705's worked well considering (I was seriously worried about them) the heat and the load on the bike.

All in all a near perfect trip.
