Title: Photo posting
Post by: Sasquatch on May 20, 2007, 04:30:48 PM
I have been getting a bunch of questions about how to post photos on the forum so I would like to address them here.

To post photos within your message, you need to have your photos hosted on another website, places like Smugmug, and Photobucket.  Smugmug works the best as far as I can tell, and is really inexpensive.  Somewhere in the neighborhood of $25/year.  They are also really convenient because if you have a photo you really like, you can just order a print of it right from Smugmug and it is mailed to you pretty darn quick.  And as one more positive kudo for Smugmug, they are a major contributor of ADVrider.com

So, now that you have all your photos hosted on Smugmug, it is time to write up a nice ride report, etc.  Open up your Smugmug account in another tab (Firefox) so you can bounce back and forth between this forum and Smugmug.

Find the photo you want to place within your text and right click on it.  Choose "Copy image location".  Now, go to your posting on this list and place the curser where you want the photo placed.  Click the button above the text box "Img".   This places an HTML tag in your text {Img}.  Now, it will be in brackets [] rather than what I am using to describe this {} so I wont confuse the posting.

So now you have your text and then on its own line the {Img} tag, now hit CTRL V.  This places the hyperlink to your image location after the Img tag.  Then click the Img button again and it will close the tag.  What you will have is something that looks like this (with brackets instead of {}):

{Img}http://direwolf.smugmug.com/photos/238641276_xRN6u-M.jpg{/Img}

When you post your thread, it will look like this:

Blah Blah Blah Blah

See, it is easy.

Save yourself the grief.  Most free hosting sites will not allow you to hyperlink to them.  Use Smugmug.

Post by: Lordy on May 21, 2007, 01:28:05 PM
Hi again,

I followed your instructions to the letter, all went well and all the photos worked when I checked after adding them.  Several hours later I have logged in to do something else and checked, now all I see are my sub headings and the small icon under the headings where the picture should be. Wazzamadda?  What have I done wrong do you think?  Would you mind jumping in under my login and checking code and stuff please?  I will give you my login details as I will be away for a week as of now.

User name "Lordy" Secret password is "jackdog"  shhh!!!    :icon_wink:

Thanks in anticipation

If you use smugmug they have a setting for each gallery to allow forums like this one to get the picture and show it inline (smugmug's "Customize Gallery"=>"External Links"). I bet many others have a setting just like it.

As long as you are logged in as you you will be able to see external links even if they are not allowed according to your settings. Anybody not logged in will not see them. Ask me how I found out...

Check you photo host for how it's set up with them...

Try:

should look like:

I don't know smugmug at all, but I got that link from the "Save Photo"  maybe there is a like for a smaller size but the link you added is to a whole page, not an image only.

Also, keep in ming that this site allows for attached images (which will remain, even if you don't)

Title: Using Google Picasa
Post by: GasDepot on June 08, 2009, 08:59:46 PM
I figure I might as well get what I can from the giant that is google/picasa.
Here is how I do it.

A. Click on the upload box on the Picasa site and create a Album to load to.
B. Upload your .jpg images to the album.
C. Click on the album once you have uploaded.
D. Click on the image you want to post here.
E. On the right side of the single image page click on the "Link to this Photo"
F. Under the "Embed image" script box that comes up select the image size
you want to put in your post from the pull down menu and click on the
"Image only (no link)" attribute below the image size pull down menu
I find that the Large 800px size takes up the full width of the finished post but that is determined by the resolution of the post viewers computer.
G. Copy the all the text that is in the "Embed image" script box.
H. Paste it your post it will look like this
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_JDi03wLRINg/SgyhT ... G_0311.JPG (http://lh3.ggpht.com/_JDi03wLRINg/SgyhTsUkP-I/AAAAAAAAAEA/M6BqbFrzpME/s400/IMG_0311.JPG)
I. Highlite the what you just pasted in your post and click the "Img" box below the "Subject" box that shows up when you post on this site. It will now look like this
img]http://lh3.ggpht.com/_JDi03wLRINg/SgyhTsUkP-I/AAAAAAAAAEA/M6BqbFrzpME/s288/IMG_0311.JPG[/img
only inside [] brackets
A 400px sample below
(http://lh3.ggpht.com/_JDi03wLRINg/SgyhTsUkP-I/AAAAAAAAAEA/M6BqbFrzpME/s400/IMG_0311.JPG)

Here is a Link to the BBCode (http://www.tigertriple.com/forum/faq.php?mode=bbcode) page that shows some of the cool things you
can do. It also shows up as a link when you post on the right side under Options
http://www.tigertriple.com/forum/faq.php?mode=bbcode (http://www.tigertriple.com/forum/faq.php?mode=bbcode)
Be sure to copy all of your post and paste it into Word or some other text editor once in a while to avoid loosing your work.
Don't ask me how I know  :BangHead
If you know of any short cuts let me know.
I would be happy to give anyone a Google account that gives you 1024 MB of
free Picasa photo storage just PM me.

Is a Google account different from a gmail account?  If so, I'd be interested.

What about "Fickr", the widest range I can allow is any Flickr member, does that mean someone who clicks on a link here will not be able to see the image?

Well now I really do need some help.

When I registered I was advised to "Upload" pictures so that they would always be available, I can see the sense in that as photo hosting sites do come and go, chnage their "Rules" and memberships lapse.

Now I have been admonished by the message that I have reached my upload limit, I didn't know there was one but admitely that was a bit niave. Can some kind person tell me if this is a general restriction or because I haven't managed to become a site supporter yet or is it a function of the number of posts etc.

Need to get bl@@dy PayPal sorted, their automated emails are driiving me mad going in circles. :x

should be able to post images direct in to here from your flickr account using the Img tags - thats what i use.  when uploading it gives you the option for pics to be either public or private (restricted to specific people).. not sure of the exact terminology as I cant access it from work!

you can post you tubes
the embedding works a little differently with tiger triple though because we use SMF SOFTWARE FOR THE FORUM .
click this link to get a tutorial how to do it ...................

http://www.tigertriple.com/forum/index.php/topic,13133.msg96476.html#msg96476

you can also practice in that thread .
try to keep the vids posted in general discussion board unless they are specific to your post in another board

ie. you are doing a ride report and have some video of it to show .

good luck
