Title: Countdown...

Only 17hours and 49 minutes before Triumph unveils the bike we've all already seen everything on through "leaked" photos.

I want one.  (XC)

If it's anything close to the BMW 800GS at a reasonable price point without all the electronic doohickies, I may be in.  I can't wait to ride one!

Oh, hell, I think I may have just turned into a corporate whore for Triumph.

That's what I'm thinking. It'll never replace a real dirt bike (I have a KTM 250XCF for that). But I could see replacing my steamer (sacrilege...) with it. Something with more umph than my 640adv, but lower weight than the steamer.

Though In truth, it'll probably be a year or two before cash reserves are at a level to afford it.  I'm guessing $12-13k.

After doing nearly 1800 miles in Scotland recently I would suggest the new bike would have to be something pretty smucking fart to get me to part with my cash. Saying that a light weight Tiger does sound very appealing so I will have a good look well they are out, a test ride maybe then make my mind up.    cheers Spud

I use my Blackbird for two-up touring; it's hard on my wrists these days but the wife prefers it to the Tiger.  And it's nice knowing if I go for an overtake with a pillion and three cases full of hairdryers I've got more than enough horses on tap.

Tiger is for me only, although SHMBO grudgingly will ride short distances on it hence it being the tool of choice for trailing behind the motorhome.

Before the Tiger I had a 650GS which was great fun for hooning around on, but was just slightly short of power for long distance work or two-up. If this new Tiger is comfy enough to keep her happy, cheap enough compared with the 800GS, has enough power to be competent two-up then the big bonus will be its weight compared with the Girly when loading and unloading the trailer.  Anyone that's tried to load a Girly on a trailer single-handed will know it's not up there with any notion of fun ...

I guess what I'm really saying is if it's light and has a halfway decent pillion, I'm sold

I might be interested if it is relatively bullshit-free, though the hype so far doesn't give one a lot of hope.  The main attraction for me would be less weight than my Girly, and less oragami-Flash Gordon-aimed at the fifteen-year-old market design.  Beaks, needlessly goofy-looking headlights that look like Bill the Cat or an insect don't impress me.  Neither does folded plastic with zig-zag decals.  And Roadies look like they are grabbing their ankles while waiting for something to happen to them.  I wish that the general motorcycle market was directed in a less juvenile way.
Sorry to sound so cynical, and I do like my Tiger.

Looks fantastic, but I don't know if it will tour as well as a Girly, which if I'm honest is my main use.

But Damn, it might be worth it to pick up that off road ability, so it would have to be the XC for me when I can scrape the sheckels together and convince the boss to let me keep the Daytona as well.

Durant, you took the words out of my mouth.  I'm quite interested but tiring of the BS and I agree on the styling although I've found that it doesn't bother me as much as it used to.  I'm getting old....

I'll see it at the NEC probably.  Rumour has it that the show will be better  this year as all the main maufacturers are pitching up.  I'm treading a fine line as the mate I'm taking hasn't had a bike for a long time and wants one.  His wife is all ready to blame me if he gets one and kill me if he hurts himself.

I asked in Webbs, Peterborough, today if they'd be getting one before the NEC show,  they said December and asked if I want to book a test ride.

I have to see it in the flesh, sit on it, maybe take it for a test drive.  I am comparing it to the Steamer, is it really that much better for me to part with the cash.

I think the proper term for when you get, ahem, distracted by such interesting internet matters and an hour or so goes by, without your noticing is a, "porn vortex".

No buddy it is going to be way to much $$$'s it's adding up fast so far with parts, shipping to and from rebuilder mechanic to pull it and reinstall and setting her up close to $2000!!

Put it on Ebay and Craigs list, sucks not having a warm place to do it at a decent pace, no other 900 motors on the bay to change my mind.
Put my ZRX up as well should have half the cash to put a down on a new Tiger this spring.
Had this guy wanting to do a trade for my ZRX but not handing off info on how the Chain and  Sprockets look as well as why the right side plastics are faded, I am a picky bastard.>>

the steamer in the craigslist ad is listed as a 97 but the luggage rack is clearly from a 95 or earlier , being made of tube steel , 96 and up had cast aluminum racks !

and 2000 is nothing compared to the cost of a new tiger 800 (in the 11,500 ball park)

pull the engine and bring it inside .rebuild the head with the new casting and use new valves . reassemble put it back in bike done . assuming you have the new head already you'd be looking at about 500 bucks or less to get it running strong again .

Then we added the inner valve springs, set of rings and a few other things I don't remember and now it shot over $800.00 in parts.

Like I was saying A dirty shed with no heat or the porch with no heat and flying dust is all I have this means my local Mechanic at $75.00 hr he put it at 8 to 9 hr round trip pull and install job not including Shims!

Shipping it out say $40.00 for both heads + the head rebuild will be $350.00 If the Bike body and seat was not so thrashed and repainted by the fool I got burned by I would say Hell yes it's worth rebuilding, I am asking $1000 for the whole bike and $200 for the new head.

If I did more research on this bike before I jumped on it I would have known better, should have not been so blinded by what I wanted at the time and walked away from it when the guy had it started when I pulled up in the drive way turning down the idle because the intake valves already had been going to Zero clearance, I should have told him I will be back the next day after it sat cold over night like I asked him in the first place "I want to start it cold".

Stupid me I have  been crawling under trucks and cars all my life fixing Crap that other people let go to long that's why my last  truck I bought new so the only crap that will go wrong is what the factory didn't do right in the first place.

In short I will most likely buy a 1050 and not the 800 due to the fact that I ride lots of miles and many hours at over 300 lbs don't think Cub Tiger will like my fat A$$ on its back for too many years or miles.

Yes I am venting sorry I love that 98 Tiger, smooth ride for hours and she loved them mountain twisties.

Not to be quoted but I think The guy in colorado buys these Tigers and parts them together from the way he was telling me things, my guess this one was sitting in the sun on one side untill he gets it together and then sells them he will not go down on his price, so in short the speedo could be from another crashed bike with low miles, I could be wrong like to think some folks are a little honest in this world I try to be.

You guys have been great to me and wish we lived closer go for a long ride not like that can't happen who knows.

Cheers Brothers!!

Pete
