Title: Oil Level
Post by: wwmorty on May 16, 2018, 10:37:08 PM
How important is it to have the oil level not go over the full mark? I've just changed the oil and the bike turns over briefly when I try to start but doesn't run. Could too much oil be an issue in having the engine run?  BTW I put in the required 4 l's as mentioned in the service manual and dipstick is showing too much oil.

Cant remember exactly but I dont think my 955 took 4 litres, 3.5 maybe.  I always used to put in about 3 litres,  run the engine then let it sit and then top up. If youve just poured 4 litres in and not run the engine it may show higher than it actually is as well. Was the engine nice and warm when you drained the old oil? Take it youve changed filter too?

Changed filter, , i put some oil in filter before I put it on. Service manual said 4 litres or 4.3 litres when changing filter. I just don't know if there's some kind of sensor that doesn't allow engine to run if too much oil. I guess I can take some out and see if engine will start. Engine started and ran fine before oil change. I just got bike too and only had it out once so maybe it's something else.

Pretty sure there isnt a sensor. Any weird clunking sounds when It tries to turn over? Is battery ok?

So I found out the main block was from an '02' Sprint engine. I took some oil out of drain plug and engine started up fine now, so there seems to be a connection between too much oil and engine not starting.
