Title: anyone played with the 855i tune?
Post by: fattyjr on March 30, 2016, 11:42:08 AM
I'm going to start playing with the tunes on my 855i as i cant find any to download apart from the tor tune.

Trying to reduce the little surge action at about 2800 to 3200 rpm.

Any pointers?

Yes.

Given that they all do it to  greater or lesser degree you'll not have that much luck.

I can get mine to a point where it runs really well for a few miles them it reverts back then runs well, then reverts back.  I've gotten to the point where I realise it's pretty much a random thing depending on what I've been doing with it over the previous few miles.  I also think that once you focus on it, you're always thinking about it.  I changed my TPS which was showing some spiking on an oscillosope some years back, but the problem came back eventually.

If you're mad keen to have a go, you need to focus on light throttle loads at those revs so you're talking about the bottom ten lines and the left half of the graph.  The problem is caused by weak mixture so that's the area to increase the fuel.  Before you do, make sure everything is top notch, ie TB balance, plugs, etc and you have no air leaks anywhere and the IACV steps are somewhere around the recommended 35 steps.  Just out of interest, what is yours set at and what is the long term trim?

You could also retard the timing a little in the same area; I normally warn against that unless you really know what you're doing because the timing table is one where you can do some proper damage.

First mods done.

Downloaded a fresh copy of tor tune.

Tps reset first.

Reduced the warm up rpms

Increased fan temp a little,

Increased rev limit a little,

Smoothed out fuel delivery from 500 rpm to 3500

Rode bike this morning and it seemed smoother.  Will ride a little and see.

Well It's been almost a month since I played with the tune on the 855 and I am over the moon with it.

I have tried to get my bike to surge and I can't get it to do it. It's brillant.

I hate having a problem with a vehicle that you can't fix.

Now the tiger is behaving, It's onto the buell with it's werid dead spot just off idle.  You wouldn't believe how much of a difference a tiny bit more fuel would do to  the tiger.

If you want a copy of the tune, drop me a message.
